This piece is styled after the work of experimental animator Robert Breer, who had the unorthodox and charming tradition of including a dedication in most of his animated shorts. So the film is an homage “to Robert” but it’s actually about and dedicated to my son. This is an animated memory box or visual diary of the fall of 2018—our first few months living in California with me starting the MFA program at CalArts, and first few months back in the US after living in Malawi. A strange reacclimation.
